Magherafelt
A little info on Magherafelt. The name Magherafelt, as per some authorities, means the “Plain of Fegads Fort,” whereas others have it as “The Plain of Felta.” An ancient name had it known as “Tafelta,” the house of Felta. Exactly when the town came into being is tough to mention with certainty. It’s thought of by some to be a city of nice antiquity attributable to the previous church, whose existence may be derived as far back as the year 1425.
More recently, Magherafelt was in the news following the announcement that the well-known Magherafelt bakery firm Genesis Crafty was creating new jobs for the area. As part of new investment, the bakery, which currently employees 350 staff, are creating an additional 35 new jobs.
The local area was in the news recently thanks to DJ Finn O’Neill as he brings his walking disco to Magherafelt. Having been involved with the Cancer Focus Fitness Factor programme, the 23-year-old has took to been walking around the streets with a mobile disco to grab attention and help raise donations for Cancer Focus NI. We say more power to him, what an inspirational idea. You can read more about his campaign and donate to the cause on his Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/finn-o-neill
